Department of Transportation announced 385 SS4A grants totaling $813 million to regional, local, and Tribal communities for the implementation of safety projects, safety planning, and demonstration activities driven at the local level to improve safety and help prevent deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways. Award Announcements $813 Million Awarded to 385 Communities across the United States SS4A funding awarded to date will improve roadway safety planning for about 70 percent of the nation’s population. With the latest award announcement in December 2023, SS4A has provided $1.7 billion in Federal funding to over 1,000 communities in all 50 States and Puerto Rico. Department of Transportation's National Roadway Safety Strategy and our goal of zero roadway deaths using a Safe System Approach. The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. Over $3 billion is still available for future funding rounds. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) established the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary program with $5 billion in appropriated funds over 5 years, 2022-2026.
